Report on Intracollege Seminar and Documentary As part of Independence day celebrations 2026, today on 14th August 2026, Debates and Seminar committee in collaboration with NSS organised an Intracollege Seminar and documentary on “Horrors of Partition” with the objective of sensitising students about the tragic experiences associated with the Partition of India in the year 1947. The programme commenced with a welcome address by Prof Javaid Ahmad Kumar, who highlighted the significance of remembering the human stories of Partition. It was emphasised that the commemoration of Independence should not only celebrate the achievement of freedom but also encourage reflection on the sacrifices and suffering that accompanied it. Many students delivered insightful presentations on various dimensions of Partition, including mass migration, communal violence, displacement, separation of families, refugee experiences and the psychological trauma suffered by ordinary people. Dr Tawseef Ahmad Bhat too deliberated and discussed how the political developments leading to Partition transformed the lives of millions of people. Personal narratives, memoirs and documented accounts were referred to in order to bring the human dimension of Partition to the forefront. In addition to it, a documentary was also displayed to the students to view and realise the horrors that were witnessed in subcontinent in the year 1947. The documentary also provided an opportunity to connect the painful history of Partition with the broader ideals of Independence Day. It was highlighted that the true meaning of freedom lies not merely in political independence but also in creating a society based on dignity, equality, fraternity, justice and respect for human life. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Prof Masroofa Qadir. In her remarks She offered thanks to the the Principal, faculty members, participating students and all those who contributed to the successful conduct of the seminar.
