As part of the 79th Independence Day celebrations, the Debates and Seminar Committee of Government Degree College for Women, Anantnag, in collaboration with the Literary Club of the college, organized an Intra-College Essay Competition on the theme Role of Education in Promoting Peace and National Unity to commemorate the spirit of patriotism and pay tribute to the countless sacrifices made during India’s freedom struggle. The programme commenced with the introductory remarks by Prof. (Dr.) Farooq Ahmad Malik, Convener, Debates and Seminar Committee. In his address, Dr. Malik spoke at length about the profound significance of Independence Day, tracing the historical journey of India’s struggle for freedom. He highlighted the heroic sacrifices made by freedom fighters and emphasized the importance of remembering and honouring their legacy in shaping modern India. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from students across various semesters, who showcased their writing prowess and deep understanding of India’s freedom movement through their thought-provoking essays. Faculty members and students attended the event in large numbers, creating an atmosphere of engagement and reflection. The programme was moderated by Mr. Javaid Ahmad Kumar, who efficiently conducted the proceedings and maintained the spirit of the event throughout. The highlight of the occasion was the distribution of certificates and medals to the winners of the competition, acknowledging their talent and encouraging academic excellence. The programme concluded with a heartfelt Vote of Thanks proposed by Prof. Masroofa Qadir, Convener, Literary Club. She expressed her gratitude to all participants, faculty members, and organizing committees for making the event a grand success. Events such as these not only nurture the literary and critical thinking skills of students but also serve as a reminder of the values of freedom, unity, and national pride that Independence Day stands for.
